The Laffite Society is a lively group of both history buffs and serious scholars dedicated to the study of the privateers Jean and Pierre Laffite and their contemporaries, along with the geographical locales and almost every topic you can think of associated with their life and times. Established in Galveston, Texas in August, 1994, the group has a wide-spread focus ranging far beyond its island origins. Members come from all walks of life and all over the United States, welcoming international participation as well. Regular meetings include guest speakers expert in their fields along with plenty of active discussion, and there are special events such as field trips and museum visits. Original research is encouraged, and members are invited to dig deeply into topics that intrigue them. Join us in our quest for the real “treasure” – discovering and sharing everything there is to know about the Laffites and their world!

The Laffite Society has monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of each month. Meetings are held at the Meridian, on 23rd and Seawall Blvd. You can follow our activities and discussions on our Facebook page (The Laffite Society) or our Facebook group (The Laffite Society of Galveston).
